Includes several documents related to his commission including orders to report. March 26, 1862 "brief account of recent operations" to Hon. Milton S. Latham, includes battle of Winchester and Strasburg. June 7, 1862 letter from Col. Samuel Carroll re: prisoners and report that Jackson's train is waiting for the river to go down. Two copies of an 11 page report, 1862, to Colonel Schriver re: the escape of Jackson and the Union forces' futile pursuit of him under Fremont. A letter, Oct. 26, 1862 from "Tom" at the headquarters of the Irish Brigade discusses the Irish in the war and Shields who is "the only real match for 'Stonewall'". Letter, 1876, to John McClernand asking for McClernand to support him in his political campaign in Indiana. Letter, 1878, to Gen. Richard Taylor re: errors in an article "Stonewall Jackson and the Valley Campaign" written by Taylor for the North American Review.
